Scholarship Opportunities for Other Applicants
The following is a list of those 2011 - 2012 scholarship opportunities available for applicants who are
graduating seniors, college students or adults. Most of these scholarships require that applicants apply using the Common Scholarship Application
(forms available by clicking the "Common Scholarship Application Forms" option in the left menu bar). Exceptions are noted in the scholarship

Adult Re-Education Scholarship
- Description: The Adult Re-Education Scholarship was established in order to provide support and assistance to those persons
who wish to obtain additional education and/or training after the normal course of their education or post-secondary training
has been interrupted for any reason.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be current Hancock County residents; 2) be at least 25 years of age; 3) have had their normal
course of education interrupted for any reason; and 4) plan to pursue an accredited degree or certification at a college, university or other
post-secondary institution.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Proof of GED, if
applicable; 3) Essay describing how you feel this scholarship will help you reach your goal of continuing your “interrupted”
education and what commitment(s) you have made to continuing your education; 4) Completed FAFSA; 5) Completed
Financial Summary Page (pages F1-F2 of the application workbook).
- Payment Amount: $800.00 – Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, books, and equipment which reasonably
enables the recipient to further his/her educational/training goals and objectives.

Jim Andrews Scholarship
- Description: This scholarship was sponsored by the Mother's Club of the Boys and Girls Club of Hancock County to honor Jim Andrews
upon his retirement. Jim was Executive Director of the club from 1964 to 1989.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating high school seniors or past high school graduates; 2) be current or past members
of the Boys and Girls Club of Hancock County; and 3) have been accepted into a college, university, or other post-secondary
institution. *Member Definition: A participant of the after school program or summer program at the Boys and Girls Club who
attends the Club on a daily basis. A member is not defined as a volunteer or a sports participant.
- Selection Criteria: Recipients will be chosen on the basis of (but not limited to) struggles with challenging life decisions (50%);
pursuit of degree or certificate in elementary education, organizational leadership, criminal justice, social work or youth
ministry (25%); and financial need (25%). Selection will be based on written essays.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) One essay on “What
the Boys and Girls Club means to me!” and one essay on your struggles with challenging life decisions.
- Payment Amount: $500.00 – Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.

Michael K. and Linda C. Beattey Scholarship
- Description: This scholarship provides educational support to graduating seniors or past graduates of a Hancock County public
high school who plan to pursue an education in the area of building, construction, and/or real estate.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating seniors or past graduates of a Hancock County public high school; and 2)
be enrolled in an educational program related to building, construction, and/or real estate, including but not limited to
educational areas such as plumbing, heating and cooling, drafting, electrical certification, surveying, and land engineering.
- Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on written essay.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Proof of GED, if
applicable; 3) Essay describing why you are a good candidate for this scholarship.
- Payment Amount: $277.00 – Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.

Earl J. and Irene B. Brooks Scholarship (Separate deadline)
- Description: This scholarship was established to provide educational support to deserving students from Hancock County, Indiana who,
without financial assistance, might be unable to attend an accredited college or university leading to a baccalaureate degree. At least one
recipient will be selected from each of the four Hancock County public high schools: Eastern Hancock, Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon, and New Palestine.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating seniors or past graduates from a Hancock County public high school in the past
four years (since 2008); 2) be current Hancock County, Indiana residents; and 3) plan to attend a college or university in pursuit of a bachelor's degree.
- Selection Criteria: The primary criterion is financial need, although achievement will also be considered. Past recipients may reapply.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Paragraph outlining
reasons for applying for this scholarship and explanation of need; 3) Competed FAFSA; 4) Completed Financial Summary Page (pages F1-F2 of the
application workbook); 5) Applicants completed 2011 tax return (1040 document only, no schedules or attachments please) if required to file;
6) Parent(s)' completed 2011 tax return (1040 document only, no schedules or attachments please) if applicant is considered a dependent for FAFSA
filing (see page F1 for instructions to determine dependency); 7) Documentation of the financial aid package offered to you from the
college/university you will attend (copy of financial aid award letter or equivalent).
- Payment Amount: Up to $6,860.25 - Awards may be split between multiple students at the discretion of the selection committee. Funds
from this scholarship may be used for tuition, required fees, room and board, and books. Recipients will have up to two years to use scholarship
funds.
This scholarship is due April 13, 2012. To apply, use the common scholarship application form with "Earl J. and Irene B. Brooks
Scholarship" in the scholarship name line on page A1 of the application. No application cover sheet is needed for this application.

Mary E. Carmichael Future of Agriculture Scholarship
- Description: This scholarship provides educational support to graduating seniors and past graduates of a Hancock County public
high school planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree in agriculture at a land-grant college.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating seniors or past graduates of a Hancock County public high school; 2) be current
residents of Hancock County; 3) be planning to pursue a bachelor’s degree in agriculture at a land-grant college, university or
one of their affiliates; and 4) have a current grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (“C” average) or above.
- Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on a written essay, and financial need may be considered. A personal interview is
required.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) 250-500 word essay
expressing your desire to study agriculture and how you plan to assist in improving the agriculture field; 3) Two letters of
recommendation; 4) Completed FAFSA; 5) Completed Financial Summary Page (pages F1-F2 of the application workbook).
- Payment Amount: $1,000.00 – Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.

Brandon Couch 4-H Beef Project Scholarship
- Description: This scholarship was established in memory of Brandon Couch, a 9-year 4-H member who was actively involved in the beef
project.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating high school seniors; 2) intend to pursue an accredited degree or certification; 3) be
currently enrolled in a Hancock County 4-H program; and 4) be currently enrolled, and have at least two years experience in the Hancock County
4-H Beef Project. Applicants need not be residents of Hancock County.
- Selection Criteria: Preference will be given to students who have exhibited respect for leadership, shown acts of kindness and
helpfulness to fellow 4-Hers, displayed integrity and showmanship, and been personally involved in the care and show preparation of animals.
Financial need may be considered.

Brandon Couch Perseverance and Leadership Award (NPHS only)
- Description: This fund was established in memory of Brandon Couch, a 2003 graduate of New Palestine High School and a
member of the football and wrestling teams.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating seniors or past graduates of New Palestine High School; 2) be in pursuit of
or plan to pursue an accredited degree or certification at a post-secondary institution; 3) have been involved in a high school sports
program fulfilling a role including, but not limited to, at least one of the following: athlete, team manager, student trainer,
and/or cheerleader; and 4) exhibit the desire to better themselves through post-secondary education.
- Selection Criteria: Preference must be given to students who have exhibited respect for leadership and show extraordinary
acts of kindness and helpfulness. Through their involvement in sports, qualified applicants have displayed integrity,
dedication, and sportsmanship, and by doing so, motivated and inspired others through their behavior. Financial need may
also be considered.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Two letters
of recommendation; 3) Essay describing how you have persevered in your life to achieve what you have accomplished;
4) Completed FAFSA; 5) Completed Financial Summary Page (pages F1-F2 of the application workbook).

Christine Dowling Scholarship
- Description: This scholarship was established in memory of Chris Dowling, a former fourth grade teacher at St. Michael's Catholic
School. Chris was always interested in learning new things and incorporating them in her classroom and in her life. She never gave up and
continued to teach despite her health struggles.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating high school seniors (not restricted to Hancock County high schools); 2) be current
Hancock County residents; and 3) plan to continue their education at any post secondary institution.
- Selection Criteria: Preference may be given to students who attended St. Michael's Catholic School or to those applicants who have
struggled with a challenging health issue or other circumstance.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Essay describing your
struggle with a challenging health issue or other circumstance and how you have dealt with the struggle.
- Payment Amount: $1,000.00 - Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.

Donna Duzan Nursing Scholarship
- Description: This scholarship was established in memory of Donna Duzan to encourage others to pursue a nursing career and perpetuate
Donna's legacy of caring and compassion.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be current residents of Hancock County; and 2) plan to pursue a degree program for registered
nursing or a specialization program within the nursing field.
- Selection Criteria: Selection will be based primarily on financial need. Preference may be given to those whon have proof of acceptance
into a nursing program.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Proof of GED, if
applicable; 3) One letter of recommendation; 4) Letter of introduction, including why you want to study nursing and your clinical area(s) of
interest; 5) Completed FAFSA; 6) Completed Financial Summary Page (pages F1-F2 of the application workbook).
- Payment Amount: $500.00 - Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.

Keith and Ann Elsbury Purdue University Scholarship
- Description: This scholarship was created to provide support for Hancock County 4-H members who are graduating seniors or past
graduates of a Hancock County public high school and either currently attend or will attend Purdue University.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating seniors or past graduates of a Hancock County public high school; 2) be current
Hancock County 4-H members with at least eight years of participation; 3) plan to attend or currently be enrolled at Purdue University;
4) intend to pursue or be in pursuit of a bachelor's degree in the School of Agriculture or the College of Consumer and Family Sciences; and
5) have a minimum "B" grade point average.
- Selection Criteria: Preference will be given to students who have exhibited leadership skills and good citizenship.
- Payment Amount: $1,000.00 - Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.

Fountaintown Gas Co., Inc. Scholarship
- Description: Fountaintown Gas Company, Inc. serves approximately 3,500 customers in five counties in East Central Indiana. It was
founded by community leaders who recognized the importance of providing an adequate supply of natural gas to support
residential, commercial and industrial growth in small communities. Leaders who possess this vision are essential to the
survival of small towns across America. This scholarship will be given to an individual who possess a vision that, with the
benefit of additional education, shows potential to impact their communities in such a positive way.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating seniors of an accredited public, private or parochial high school; 2) live within
the primary service area of Fountaintown Gas Co., Inc. and have a parent or grandparent who has been a customer of Fountaintown Gas
Co., Inc. for a minimum of 36 consecutive months; 3) have a GPA between 2.5 and 3.5 on a 4.0 scale; and 4) plan to pursue an accredited degree
or certification at a post-secondary institution.
- Selection Criteria: Recipients will be chosen based on three factors: 1) the motivation to create a successful station in life and
use their unique talents to define their future endeavors; 2) the ability to balance diverse activities such as community
involvement, academic pursuits, extra-curricular activities, and/or employment; and 3) financial need.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Two letters of
recommendation from individuals not related to the applicant that support the applicant’s volunteer and charitable
involvement in the community; 3) An essay outlining your personal goals and why you have selected your chosen field of
study; 4) Completed Financial Summary Page (pages F1-F2 of the application workbook).
- Payment Amount: $1,000.00 - Payment for this scholarship will be made upon completion of the first year of college and receipt of
transcripts with proof of enrollment in a second year. Students placed on academic probation will not be eligible to receive payment. Funds
from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.

Hancock County Shrine Club Scholarship
- Description: This scholarship was founded in order to support the educational endeavors of Hancock County high school graduates who
wish to pursue a career in the medical field.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be past graduates or graduating seniors of a Hancock County public high school; 1) be residents of Hancock
County, Indiana; and 3) plan to pursue an education in the medical field at any level.
- Selection Criteria: Selection will be based, in order of importance, on financial need, citizenship, and achievement.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Proof of GED, if
applicable; 3) Paragraph outlining your reasons for applying and an explanation of your need; 4) Completed FAFSA; 5) Completed Financial Summary

Ron Horning Scholarship
- Description: This scholarship was sponsored by the former Mother’s Club of the Boys and Girls Club of Hancock County to
honor retiring Executive Director, Ron Horning. It provides educational support to high school graduates who will pursue an
accredited degree or certification at a college, university or other post-secondary institution.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating high school seniors or past high school graduates; 2) be current or past members
of the Boys and Girls Club of Hancock County; and 3) have been accepted into a post-secondary institution. *Member
Definition: A participant of the after school program or summer program at the Boys and Girls Club who attends the Club on a
daily basis. A member is not defined as a volunteer or a sports participant.
- Selection Criteria: Recipients will be chosen on the basis of proven leadership qualities (25%); good citizenship (25%); good moral
character (25%); and a written essay (25%).

- Payment Amount: $500.00 - Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.

Dr. Brian and Charlotte Kirkwood Scholarship (MVHS only)
- Description: The Dr. Brian and Charlotte Kirkwood Scholarship was established because of their commitment to helping the youth of the
county. They believe education is truly a pathway to a successful future. It is their hope that the scholarship recipients would eventually use
their education to be a part of the community through their service to others.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 3) be graduating seniors or past graduates of Mt. Vernon High School; 1) be residents of Hancock
County, Indiana; 4) have a minimum grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale; 2) intend to pursue a bachelor’s degree at an
accredited public college or university; 5) have participated in at least two seasons of a sport including, but not limited to,
the following: wrestling, football, track, softball, volleyball, soccer, basketball, cheerleading; 6) have participated in activities
that show examples in community service; 7) have participated in at least one school club for at least two years of their high
school career; and 8) show evidence of strong leadership and caring for others.
- Selection Criteria: Selection is based on high character, good work ethic, community participation, leadership qualities, a
demonstrated spirit of caring towards others, and financial need.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Paragraph outlining your
reasons for wanting to pursue a higher education; 3) Two letters of recommendation; 4) Completed FAFSA; 5) Completed Financial Summary Page

Kiwanis Club of Greenfield Scholarship
- Description: These three scholarships were established by the Kiwanis Club to benefit residents of Hancock County.
- J.B. Stephens Scholarship: Mr. Stephens is a retired educator with over 50 years experience in Hancock County and the
surrounding area. In addition to his outstanding work with children through education, he has also been a member of Kiwanis for over
50 years. He has exemplified the ideals of Kiwanis International, always putting community service first in his life. It is in his honor
that Kiwanis offers this scholarship to a student pursuing a major in the field of education.
- Dr. William Griffing Scholarship: It is in his honor that Kiwanis offers this scholarship to a student pursuing a major in
the field of science.
- Robert Eagleston Scholarship: It is in his honor that Kiwanis offers this scholarship to a student pursuing a major in the
field of business.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be residents of Hancock County, Indiana; and 2) plan to attend or be currently attending a
post-secondary educational institution in the state of Indiana.
- Payment Amount: $500 per student.

Florence M. Lacy Scholarship (Separate deadline)
- Description: This scholarship was established in memory of Florence Lacy, an educator who was a lifelong resident of Hancock County.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating seniors of Eastern Hancock High School or Greenfield-Central High School or have
graduated from either school in the past four years (since 2008); and 2) be residents of Hancock County, Indiana.
- Selection Criteria: Selection will be based primarily on financial need, but scholastic ability and achievement are considered.
Scholarships will be awarded to the top applicant(s) from each school.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Paragraph outlining
reasons for applying for this scholarship and explanation of need; 3) Competed FAFSA; 4) Completed Financial Summary Page (pages F1-F2 of
the application workbook); 5) Applicants completed 2011 tax return (1040 document only, no schedules or attachments please) if required to file;
6) Parent(s)' completed 2011 tax return (1040 document only, no schedules or attachments please) if applicant is considered a dependent for FAFSA

Maxwell United Methodist Memorial Scholarship of Hancock County
- Description: The former congregation of the Maxwell United Methodist Church has made scholarships available to graduating seniors and
past graduates of a Hancock County public high school who wish to obtain or are currently enrolled in an associate's or bachelor's degree
program at an accredited public college or university or to adults who wish to obtain additional education and/or training in
order to increase employment opportunities after the normal course of their education has been interrupted.
- Qualifications: Applicants who are graduating seniors or current college students must: 1) have been active members of a United
Methodist church congregation throughout four years of high school and college; and 2) have a minimum grade point average of 2.95 on a 4.0 scale.
Adult applicants must: 1) be current residents of Hancock County, Indiana; 2) be active members of a United Methodist congregation; 3) have proof
of acceptance into a college or university with the intent of completing an associate's or bachelor's degree; and 4) have had a minimum grade
point average of 2.95 on a 4.0 scale during their most recent education.
- Selection Criteria: Selection will be based on good moral character, involvement in church activities, and community service. Five
total scholarships will be awarded.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Proof of GED, if
applicable; 3) List of church activities in which you have participated, including number of years participated for each activity; 4) 250-word
essay describing your family, church involvement, and future plans; 5) Two letters of recommendation: one from a church leader and one from a
teacher.
- Payment Amount: $1,000.00 per recipient - Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.

Debra L. Plank Memorial Scholarship
- Description: This fund was established in memory of Debbie Plank, who was a 4-H leader and served as co-chair of the 4-H foods project
and foods auction.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be US citizens; 2) be enrolled in an accredited college, university, or other post-secondary
institution; 3) be actively pursuing, at a minimum, an associate's degree; 4) be of high moral character; 5) have maintained at least a "C" average on
prior academic work; and 6) have participated in 4-H foods projects for at least 6 years. The majority of the student's 4-H participation must be
in Hancock County 4-H.
- Selection Criteria: Recipients will be chosen on the basis of 4-H activities and leadership (50%); community involvement (30%); and
application packet, including essay and letter of recommendation (20%).
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) One page summary of
all 4-H projects in which you have participated including number of years of participation (example: Beef – 9 years, Clothing – 10
years, etc.); 3) 4-H achievement record with up-to-date information on your 4-H participation and accomplishments; 4) Three
paragraphs describing your three most significant 4-H projects including dates of project, reasons for choosing that project, skills
and knowledge gained from it, how the project contributed to your growth, and how it influenced your education and career
choices; 5) Paragraph describing your 4-H leadership activities including your role in each activity, size and scope of your efforts
(time spent, people recruited, resources committed), and what was accomplished; 6) Essay outlining the career path you plan to
pursue after your post-secondary education and how your 4-H experience influenced your decision to apply for this scholarship,
your choice in field of study, and your career goals; 7) Two letters of recommendation, one from a 4-H leader and one from an
academic advisor (teacher, counselor, principal, or advisor); 8) Current picture (See page 2 picture instructions).
- Payment Amount: $700.00 to first recipient and $300.00 to second recipient. If only one applicant qualifies, student will receive
$700.00 - Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.

Viva Pressler Scholarship
- Description: This scholarship is awarded to students who have graduated from a Hancock County public high school who carried a "B"
grade average in mathematics and science during their high school career.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating seniors or past graduates of a Hancock County public high school; and 2) have a
minimum "B" average in mathematics and science during their high school career.
- Selection Criteria: Financial need may be considered.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Completed FAFSA; 3)
Completed Financial Summary Page (pages F1-F2 of the application workbook).
- Payment Amount: $2,061.00 - Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.

James Whitcomb Riley Festival Award
- Description: This scholarship was established in order to assist a male or female who is a Hancock County resident and graduating senior
of a Hancock County public high school and who has excelled in the area of community service.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be a graduating senior of a Hancock County public high school, an area parochial high school, or
a home school program accredited by the State of Indiana.; and 2) be enrolled in a college, university, or accredited school in their field of
interest; and 3) have an equivalent of a full "C" average in their high school course work.
- Selection Criteria: Recipient will be chosen based on community service and financial need.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) High school transcript; 2) Letter of acceptance on college or university letterhead.
- Payment Amount: $1,000.00 - Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.
This scholarship uses a separate application, available by clicking
here. Application must be postmarked to the
Riley Festival address by March 15, 2012. Guidance officials may require up to a week to process a transcript, so be sure to
request those early.

Helen Roath Scholarship
- Description: This scholarship was established in order to provide educational support to a female high school graduate,
at least 25 years of age, who is a Hancock County resident and has had their education interrupted.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be a female; 2) be at least 25 years of age; 3) be a high school graduate;
4) be a United States citizen and resident of Hancock County; and 5) attend a school of applicant's choice in Indiana.
- Selection Criteria: Recipient will be chosen based on an autobiography outlining career goals and pertinent background information.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Autobiography of 300 words or less outlining future career goals; 2) Two letters of recommendation.
- Payment Amount: $550.00 - Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.

Rotary Club of Greenfield Educational Scholarship
- Description: This scholarship was established by the Rotary Club of Greenfield to help students of Eastern Hancock, Mt. Vernon,
and New Palestine High Schools and Hancock County residents who attend a private or parochial high school to further their
education.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating seniors of Eastern Hancock, Mt. Vernon, or New Palestine High School or be
current Hancock County residents who are graduating seniors at a private or parochial high school.
- Selection Criteria: Recipients will be selected based on their application and written essay, with emphasis on good grades, good
citizenship and some need. Children and grandchildren of current Rotarians may not apply. Three recipients will be selected.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Essay using the
following information: Rotary International, the world’s first service club, is defined as “an organization of business and
professional men and women, united worldwide, who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all
vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.” For years, Rotary’s commitment to Service Above Self has been
channeled through the Avenues of Service, which form the foundation of club activity. The Avenues of Service are:
Club Service- Service within one’s club
Community Service- Service to one’s local community
Service- Service to one’s business or profession
International Service- Service in the development of friendly international relations
New Generations- Service with younger individuals through leadership development activities.

and service, how have you approached your role as a student at your high school?

Christine Schaefer Theatre Scholarship
- Description: This scholarship is established in honor of KidsPlay, Inc. founder and director, Christine Schaefer.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating high school seniors; 2) be KidsPlay, Inc. alumni with at least two years participation in
KidsPlay, Inc. programs; 3) be planning to pursue a theatrical degree in performance and/or education; and 4) have a minimum grade point average
of 2.0 on a 4.0 grading scale. Applicants may include students graduating from a high school outside Hancock County or who are home-schooled.
- Selection Criteria: Recipient will be chosen based on an essay describing how theatre has affected his or her life.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Essay describing how
theatre has impacted your life.
- Payment Amount: $500.00 - Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.

Naomi Ann Smith "Teaching with Love" Scholarship (EHHS only)
- Description: This scholarship was established in memory of Naomi Ann Smith to provide educational support for a graduating senior
or past graduate of Eastern Hancock High School pursuing an elementary education degree.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating seniors or past graduates of Eastern Hancock High School; 2) be in pursuit of a
bachelor's degree in elementary education; 3) have displayed a good work ethic and a passion for learning.
- Selection Criteria: The primary criterion is financial need; however, selection will also be based upon a strong desire to
work with children, particularly those that struggle academically. Preference will be given to students in their third and fourth years of
college education.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Essay describing why you
are a good candidate for this scholarship; 3) Two letters of recommendation from teachers and/or professors; 4) Completed FAFSA; 5) Completed
Financial Summary Page (pages F1-F2 of the application workbook).

George and Icy Vaughn Performing Arts Scholarship
- Description: This scholarship was established in memory of George and Icy Vaughn to recognize students who excel in the areas of
performing arts. Scholarships will be awarded based on a live performance on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 2:00pm at the H.J. Ricks Centre
for the Arts. Performances must be less than 5 minutes in one of the following areas:
- Dance: Contestants must perform a solo variation/composition in any one of the following areas: classical ballet, modern,
jazz, tap or cultural dance. Appropriate dance attire must be worn; however, costuming should be kept to a minimum. Props should only be
used if an integral part of the dance. Performers should provide music on CD with only one track which is the performance piece. Dance
should fit the stage which is approximately 30 feet wide by 25 feet deep. Performances will be judged on overall artistic excellence as
demonstrated in the following areas: selection, technicality, musicality, personal interpretation, and stage presence.
- Instrumental Music: Contestants may perform one piece that shows contrast, technical and lyrical skills. A piano will be
available but contestants must provide their own accompanists. Original compositions are permitted but must be transcribed. It is
preferred that musical selections be memorized. Performances will be judged on overall artistic excellence as demonstrated in the
following areas: mechanical skills, note accuracy, intonation, rhythmic accuracy, interpretation, dynamics, musicianship, and stage
presence.
- Theatrical Monologue: Contestants will perform a monologue only. Selections should be from a published play, allowing the
contestant to demonstrate a range of abilities. There should be no overt attempts at costuming, although costume accessories are
permitted, and no dialects. Only basic lighting is permitted and will be provided for the performance. Participants may use simple hand
props that they provide. Performances will be judged on overall artistic excellence as demonstrated in the following areas: selection,
vocal awareness, physical awareness, and communication.
- Vocal Music: Contestants will perform one piece of their selection. A piano will be available but contestants must provide
their own accompanists. Performance piece will be accepted from any category of literature, but you should select a piece that allows
you to showcase your vocal talent. Performances must be memorized. Performances will be judged on overall artistic excellence as
demonstrated in the following areas: intonation, tone quality, rhythmic accuracy, technique, interpretation, and general musicianship.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating seniors of a Hancock County public high school; 2) be residents of Hancock County;
3) have a minimum 2.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale; and 4) participate in the live performance event.
- Selection Criteria: Selection will be made based on performances at the live event. Judging will be done by a panel of professionals
who have professional or educational experience in one of the areas of performing arts.
- Payment Amount: First place - $7,000.00; Second place - $4,000.00; Third place - $3,000.00; Fourth place - $2,000.00; Fifth place -
$1,000.00. Each participant who does not place will receive $250.00 each.

Ann Waitt Memorial Scholarship
- Description: This scholarship was established in memory of Ann Waitt, former Director of the 4-H Association, in honor of her interest
and activity in the 4-H program.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be Hancock County 4-H members who will complete their final year of 4-H activity this year; and 2) be
enrolled in an accredited college or university and actively pursuing, at a minimum, an associate's degree.
- Selection Criteria: Recipients will be chosen on the basis of 4-H achievement (40%), school activities (20%), community service (20%),
and academic achievement (20%). Two recipients will be chosen.
- Payment Amount: $500.00 per recipient - Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.

Wilfong Family Scholarship (EHHS only)
- Description: This scholarship provides financial assistance to a graduating senior or past graduate of Eastern Hancock High School
who will pursue an accredited degree or certification at a post-secondary institution.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be graduating seniors or past graduates of Eastern Hancock High School; and 2) be (or have
been) in the top 1/3 of their high school class academically.
- Selection Criteria: The primary criterion for selection is financial need.
- Supporting Materials Required: 1) Transcripts from all previous schooling (both high school and college); 2) Completed FAFSA; 3)
Completed Financial Summary Page (pages F1-F2 of the application workbook).
- Payment Amount: $1,067.00.00 per year – Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only. Scholarship
is renewable (total scholarship amount of $2,134.00) should the recipient maintain his or her good academic standing as a
full-time student.

Jeremiah and Tabbatha Zapf 4-H Memorial Scholarship
- Description: The family and friends of Jeremiah and Tabbatha Zapf established this memorial scholarship to provide educational support
for Hancock County 4-H members.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be Hancock County 4-H members.
- Selection Criteria: Recipients will be chosen on the basis of 4-H achievement (40%), school activities (20%), community service (20%),
and academic achievement (20%). Preference may be given to applicants who have participated in the swine project. Two scholarships will be
awarded, one to a male and one to a female.
- Payment Amount: $500.00 per recipient - Funds from this scholarship may be used for tuition and required fees only.

Edith Zike Nursing Scholarship
- Description: The Edith Zike Nursing Scholarship was created in 1970 in memory of a dedicated local nurse, Edith Zike, to encourage
entry into the nursing profession, thereby assuring the community of a continued high level of nursing care.
- Qualifications: Applicants must: 1) be accepted into a nursing or pre-nursing program at an accredited school; and 2) be current
residents of Hancock County and/or employed in a health care capacity in Hancock County. Prior recipients of this scholarship are not
eligible.
- Selection Criteria: Recipients will be selected based on academic achievement, community or extracurricular involvement and
demonstration of interest and/or experience in nursing activities. Multiple recipients may be selected.
- Payment Amount: Up to $2,000.00 per recipient
